Solutions: RFID
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is the latest technology in identification and automatic data collection industry. A significant improvement over the existing bar coding technique, RFID can not only read more efficiently with much less manual operations, but also store kilo-bytes of dynamic data thereby allowing the entire history of the material travel along with it. This substantially enhances supply chain functions that can be performed.RFID can be employed in a variety of scenarios. It holds great promise for radically improving business processes and its use is becoming very widespread. Early implementers of the technology have benefited from several unexpected opportunities that this has thrown open. A few sample scenarios are provided in TABLE 1.
Selection of the right solution for you involves understanding the performance parameters such as Read range, Anti-collision characteristics, Tag size, Data rate, Ability to read near metal or wet surfaces, Need for rewriting, Regulatory constraints, etc. Depending upon the requirements applicable to the problem at hand, the right solution in terms of Frequency of communication, Active/Passive tag, Tag communication protocol, etc needs to be chosen and the chosen solution should then be integrated with your existing applications.
Springventure has extensive knowledge in applying RFID technology into real world applications in real world environments. As RFID System Integrator, we can help you through the complete life cycle of RFID systems implementation, including:
* Project management
* Feasibility studies including ROI assessments
* Solution design including Tag and hardware selection
* Software integration
* Testing
* Pilot runs
* Implementation assistance
* Documentation
* Training
| Pharmaceutical Important information such as dosage instructions and drug interaction warnings may be encoded and stored in RFID tags thereby reducing costly medication errors. Blind and vision impaired patients can use readers to identify medicines using RFID readers, which in combination with text-to-speech conversion software, can read out the medicine details to the patient. A paperless audit trail can be built by storing the "link" information in the tags, thereby providing an accountable supply chain. Healthcare RFID tags can be used to store key information regarding patients, which can be used to improve patient identification and provide access to the required facilities. Also, RFID readers attached to sound alarms can be set up at check-points/exits to check in case patients (e.g. with mental disorders) try to wander through, and control baby-snatching or kidnapping of patients. RFID tags can also track medication dispensing, laboratory samples, etc thereby saving time and improving accuracy. Material Despatch and Receipts RFID readers can help you to locate and put together all the items needed to complete an order. The readers can read incoming packages and automatically route them to stores or the manufacturing line. RFID enables identification of individual items inside by just reading the tag attached to the package. Stores and Manufacturing RFID reader can help identify location of the items. Thus the technology can be used to identify and correct storage errors, route materials and sub-assemblies, identify critical bottlenecks in the assembly line, etc, thus saving time and money. Recreation RFID tags can be employed in amusement parks and recreational facilities to control or limit access to certain facilities. Another application is tracking of a group, should the members get separated. Prepayment in restaurants, entertainment centers, gas stations, etc RFID can be used for prepayment in multiple contexts, by having customers prepay and loading the monetary value onto the RFID enabled card. Upon usage, the balance can be reduced by the reader and such cards can be recharged also using the same technology. Library and Video Store Libraries and video stores can use RFID to speed up check-in, checkout, manage inventory, and improve security. Using RFID, it is possible to check in or out several books in mere seconds without any manual handling. The tags can also be used for theft detection, and quickly identify misplaced books or videos. Toll Gates RFID technology is employed in toll roads and bridges to let drivers pay their tolls without stopping at all. RFID tags attached to the vehicles can be read at up to 50 mph as the vehicle passes an antenna mounted in the toll collection lane. A monthly toll bill can be prepared for each vehicle or the toll can be debited from a prepaid value stored on the tag. Same approcah can be used in public transport to collect bus and train fare from prepaid fare cards. Hospitality Hotels, restaurants, and clubs can use RFID for guest identification/ membership cards. The RFID card can then be used for cashless payment, as a room key, and for access control to different entertainment facilities. | |
